Many nights I’ll just drive, and drive, and drive, for seemingly no reason.
Whenever people ask me where I’m going, my reply is usually “wherever the roads take me.” This concept may sound strange, but there is something that I find so compelling about automotive freedom.
I’m a strong believer that driving is therapeutic. Oftentimes I drive to scenic places, just to decompress and stare at the city from a quiet viewpoint. There’s something so beautiful about self-reflection times like these.
It’s late and I’m writing this while sitting in my car. It’s been one hell of a week and I’m taking this time to do exactly that. Decompress & stare at the city from a quiet viewpoint.
Whenever people ask where I’m going on drives like tonight’s, my reply usually consists of something along the lines of “wherever the roads take me.” The majority of the time I have no plans, or destination in mind. I start driving and see where I end up. Sometimes these drives are short, such as running to Tim Hortons to grab a warm drink, or sometimes they’re longer, and I end up far away from home. Regardless of the duration, I consider these to be my therapy sessions.
I’ve mentioned my father’s mustang in previous blog posts, but I figured I’d dedicate one to the history of the mustang.
The Ford Mustang was originally produced in the mid-1960s in America to fill a void that existed in the car market. The mustang was intended to be a cost-effective sports car, and when released was extremely successful.
Mustangs quickly became popular and over time developed the title of being an “American Icon.”
Over the years, Ford released various versions of the mustang. From the culture-hated, mid-80s Mustang II, to popular icons such as Shelby editions of the mustang, the name has been around for a while.
I owe my obsession with cars largely to my father’s mustang.
I seemed to hit a mental block when creating Mini Assignment #3. I just couldn’t think of a way to “remix something” in a car-related way.
When I hear the word “remix,” I think about music. I get stuck into this mental loop of the idea that a remix can only apply to music.
After careful thought, I came up with an idea. Why not put a comical spin on the assignment, and create a cross-contamination photo edit which encompassed car brand rivalry?
I took an image of my father’s Audi TT-RS and edited an “AMG” badge onto it. Albeit, poorly, but that was sort of the point. I don’t want people to take it seriously.
Completing this mini-assignment was refreshing, as it showed me that there’s ways to overcome creativity mental blocks.
English was a subject I wasn’t too fond of in school. My elementary school teachers put me in ESL because English wasn’t my first language; Urdu was. However, what annoyed me about ESL was how I already knew English. I just happened to have an accent at the time. Therefore, I didn’t get the most positive start in the learning process.
My writing skills finally began to progress in grades 6 and 7. We did short story units, poetry units, and book reports in those grades. For one group project, my group and I had to do a book report on “Stargirl” and showcase one of the skills we learned in our units. I chose to write a poem about Stargirl in the group, and holy, was it painful and funny to look back on.
I guess I didn’t know how to spell that time or make sense of a storyline. But now, I don’t know what I would do without writing as an outlet.
I am a natural overthinker, and writing helps me get all my thoughts on paper so they don’t bombard me. For example, before writing this blog post, I was overthinking, so I had to sit with myself and type away to release some of my stress.
One can call writing a healthy coping mechanism, but I share some of what I write or my poetry because I know someone can relate to it. Even if it impacts one person, I know I have done my job.
In the future, I want to invest in a typewriter because they look super aesthetic but also because I want to see my words print out on paper in real time, and I think it will add a nice touch to my blog posts or Instagram posts moving forward.
It was my roommate’s birthday yesterday and I decided to surprise her with a huge birthday cake!
It was really hard for me because I had to hide it from her for 2 days while we shared the same kitchen. When I asked her if she had any idea about the cake, she said it was until the afternoon of her birthday that she somehow guessed what I was hiding in the fridge (lol). Although it was my first time making such a big cake, I did struggle a bit but the process was really enjoyable. The recipe that I used to make the cake was from “Cooking tree” – a baking channel that I really like and usually learn from. For the detailed recipe and baking instructions, please refer to their video here.
Now, more cake pictures! ^^
I hope you feel inspired by these pictures and would try making a birthday cake for your loved one someday!
When people ask me, “Where do you live?”, some are confused when I say, “Pitt Meadows.” It always suprises me, how many people don’t know where Pitt Meadows is or even that it’s a city. But to me, that’s one of its appeals. To those that live here, Pitt Meadows is our hidden gem.
Across the Pitt River and Golden Ears’ Bridge lies the city of Pitt Meadows. With a population of just over 19,000, Pitt Meadows has a home-town intimate feel that most cities in the lowermainland lack. Unlike the sprawling cities of Burnaby and Vancouver, Pitt Meadows has one of everything: one highschool, one movie theater, one rec centre, etc. Because of this, the sense of community is strong.
Between Pitt River, Pitt Lake, and the dyke, Pitt Meadows offers great outdoor scenery and activities. Osprey Village, located by the river and the Katzi First Nation reserve, is a hub
Based out of Burnaby Lake, the SFU Rowing team is a competitive club representing Simon Fraser University. Through the guidance of coaches Ryan Takagi, Ian Ceholski, and Meaghan Stratford, the team trains 6 mornings a week at Burnaby Lake and SFU. Within SFU, the team is classified as a club, not a varsity sport. This classification means the team receives very little funding from the university and relies on fundraising to buy equipment, cover travel costs, regatta entrance fees, and coaches’ wages. Student-athletes are also responsible for a portion of these costs. Behind the fundraising initiatives is SFU Rowing’s student-led executive board, which in addition to fundraising, works on team events, recruitment, and media.
I joined the team this past February, and I’m so glad I did. I have fallen in love with the sport of rowing— I look forward to every practice. The feeling of using your strength and power to move through the water is exhilarating, and working as a team to achieve a common goal is unlike any sport I’ve done before. The speed of the boat depends on every person to do their part, and I feel lucky to have such a great team behind me. My teammates make waking up at 4:45 am six times a week to train on a cold and rainy day at the lake, worth it. I’m thankful to my coaches, Ryan, Ian, and Meaghan for giving so much of their time to the program and expecting so little in return. Driven by their passion for rowing, they are committed to developing us as high-level athletes and overall good people.
I ran a digital marketing position on Instagram three times. The first was an earring shop, the second was an Alzheimer’s charity event, and now a restaurant called Sushi Mura produces content. Therefore, Instagram is the most familiar tool for me. Therefore, I will focus on Instagram except for blogs.
But aside from this, if you want to try something fresh, it’s probably a clubhouse. I want to host a podcast containing tips and joys and sorrows of international students someday. Currently, the clubhouse seems to be quiet after the bubble has fallen, so I think it is a good platform for beginners like me to try with small guests without any burden.
Actually, I am the club manager who made the clubhouse SFU club, but I have never made a room because there are many people. If I have a chance, I want to try it!
Looking at the cover of <Vogue>, it can be seen that it reflects the current media and design trends well. <Vogue> seems to understand what to sell and how to sell best. If you look at the history of changes on the cover of “Vogue”, you can see photos that reflect the best high-end fashion trends from detailed artistic images. By providing readers with artists, trends, and high-end cultures that can represent the best high-end fashion of the time, Vogue shows that it is the leader in high-end fashion in name and reality. For readers to trust <Vogue>, the contents of sponsors and promotions must also feel related to the overall visual image of <Vogue>. In a similar context, to most efficiently build content in digital media, video content, a means that can most effectively affect readers of <Vogue>, which is sensitive to visual images, is also actively used. The digital team of <Vogue> is playing the same role as a creative agency as a branding strategy that focuses on content development using the advancement of visual images. In addition, “Vogue” is a renowned fashion magazine in the fashion world, focusing on creating the best content by fully utilizing the network with the world’s fashion artists (photographers, models, art directors, etc.). <Vogue> seems to cite Instagram as the most effective and efficient medium among various social media platforms in raising brand awareness. They have 2.1 million followers post 1,026 posts and are very active. However, they receive nearly 10,000 “likes” without any hashtags due to their public symbol of the trend itself. <Vogue> has been building aggressive marketing strategies through new media and means without missing the trend of digital media development. In addition, the print version of the magazine, a classic version that symbolizes the best composition and editing power, has not been neglected, and through constant change and evolution, it has continued its reputation as a “fashion textbook.”
Fashion magazine covers have a huge impact on sales for the month. If you go to a bookstore, you can’t read all the magazines and you have to judge only by the cover and gift to see if they are worth buying. Therefore, in the case of Korea, where I frequently encountered Vogue, they presented more colourful covers and fruitful gifts during economically unstable times. Considering that magazines are essentially advertising books, I think magazines should accurately predict consumer sentiment and economic conditions. Therefore, the cover of a fashion magazine can be seen as one of the most accurate symbols reflecting the economic situation, and due to the recent coronavirus, Vogue has been using a more colourful cover. One of Vogue’s oldest hook-up methods is to frequently present gifts that are more expensive than magazine prices, attracting young adult women. Vogue is already welcome to collaborate with various brands such as Cosmetics and Living, which have a price range because it has a large ripple effect on the brand itself. These Vogue covers are decorated by the hottest of the time and registered on the cover of Vogue is the dream of all celebrities. As such, they actively collaborate with companies and models, which often leads to fandom purchases. This is a relatively small means of income caused by the growing fandom culture, but it will be more effective than presenting an appendix to a magazine. In the case of Korean Vogue, an event was also held to collaborate with messenger apps such as WhatsApp in North America called Kakao Talk to conduct photo shoots for the general public. As such, Vogue is no longer only complacent to fashion people but is also expanding its scope to the public.

When most people hear the words “Audi” and “supercar” in the same sentence, their brain automatically goes to the R8, Audi’s flagship performance car.
The TT-RS is an overlooked, incredible piece of machinery. Introduced to North America in 2018, the Audi TT-RS has gained the nickname of “Baby R8” within the car community.
The TT-RS is a display of engineering excellence. Equipped with a unique, turbocharged inline-5 motor, they make a whopping 400 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque and sound incredible while doing it. In a car that only weighs 3,300 lbs, the car presents a recipe for being an incredible platform.
Oh yeah, did I mention it’s all-wheel-drive? Being all-wheel-drive means that it can rocket from 0-100 km/h in 3 and a half seconds. How crazy is that?
The styling of the TT-RS is reminiscent of an R8 as well. Looking at photos, it becomes apparent that the nickname “Baby R8” is rather fitting.
When most people hear the name “Volkswagen Golf” — they usually think about a boring commuter car that looks like an egg.
What if I told you there’s a fast, sporty version of the Volkswagen Golf?
Let me introduce you to the Golf R. Volkswagen’s flagship performance car.
What makes the Golf R different from a regular Golf? Well, in short, it’s better in just about every way. The Golf R is equipped with a turbocharged engine which produces 300 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. These numbers aren’t super spectacular when considering modern performance cars, but the Golf R has a trick up its sleeve – it’s all-wheel-drive.
This all-wheel-drive system is largely what’s responsible for turning the Golf from a regular commuter car into a little rocketship. An unmodified Golf R is capable of a 0-100 km/h time of just 4 and a half seconds. Not bad for a Golf… Plus, being all-wheel-drive means that it’s suitable for just about any weather you throw at it (when equipped with the proper tires).
The all-wheel-drive system isn’t the only party trick of the Golf R though. It’s also equipped with a 7-speed, dual-clutch transmission, which means it shifts through gears lightning quick.
In addition to the excellent mechanical components, it also looks pretty sharp. It still looks like an egg, but if you’re able to look past that, it looks pretty darn good!
The best part about the Golf R? Its practicality. It has all the functionality of the base-model, “known and loved” Golf. This means that it’s arguably one of the best daily drivers you can buy.
