Peer Review 1

I was requested to evaluate Lily’s blog, Knitting After Hours. I was astounded by how well-designed the website appeared when I initially clicked the link to it. Lily’s website is well-organized and put together, while we have just begun developing our website.

During the day, Lily studies, and at night, she knits. She intends to highlight her accomplishments and successful ventures. She discusses twist socks in the part on her knitting endeavours. I had the impression that I was speaking with Lily directly while reading the post. Even though I’ve never been interested in knitting socks, it was interesting, hilarious, and engaging enough to have me wanting to learn more.

Going through Lily’s website made me immediately take note of the images she included to each post. Since I like to see things visually versus mentally picturing them, I am a huge photo enthusiast. When I clicked on the post because there was an image, I instantly felt as though I understood everything Lily was saying. I loved that there was an image and a brief description of the post before you read it. I really appreciated how she combined visuals and links to the topics she was discussing.

In between the white and black on Lily’s site, there is this lovely yellow colour. The colour palette she is utilising, in my opinion, has a strong knitting connection. It is quite relaxing and does not overwhelm. Because of all the categories she has established, I had no trouble finding her posts. She has developed links to the knitting patterns she uses in her work.

I immediately recognise what Lily is attempting to advertise when I visit her website. She wants to share her experience with each project because she is so passionate about knitting. Regarding the goals she has for her website, I had no questions. Lily strikes me as funny and as someone who is well-versed in website editing.

I’ll sum up my evaluation by saying that she’s organised and can knit. She did mention that she would be include food and playlists in her “about me” section. Because I adore food, I can’t wait to see her prepare recipes. Her website will have content that goes beyond knitting, which is incredibly interesting. Additionally, I really appreciate how she’ll be sharing her own playlist. If she included a category of projects, she’s interested in trying, I think it would be interesting. Additionally, she might mention where she gets the yarn or give advice for it. It’s interesting to hear about what she does, but to keep people interested, she should provide more advice. I’d love to learn how to knit, so I’ll be sure to visit her page more frequently.

Lily’s website is knittingafterhours.com.

Korean Corn Dogs.

Never in my life have I eaten a corn dog. Never had a strong desire to give it a try or find out more about it.

While I was visiting a friend, she expressed a desire for a Chung Chun Rice Dog Korean corn dog. I suggested that because we were both hungry and I am the pickiest eater ever, we try it.

We travelled to Burnaby’s Location, located at 4428 Beresford Street. From 11:30 am until 11:00 pm, it is open. Its brightness and simplicity caught my attention right away. It seemed strange that there was nowhere to sit down and eat, in my opinion. You order your dish and then wait for it to be freshly deep-fried in the incredibly small restaurant. There are 17 sauces and spices to choose from after it is prepared. They will put the sauce and seasoning on for you.

I bought a Chung Chun Original, which is a full-flavored beef sausage, and a Half Mozzarella, which is a mixed-meat and cheese sausage. I chose several condiments for every corn dog. My original corn dog was topped with honey butter, sweet mayo, honey mustard, and ketchup. Teriyaki, sweet chilli, and sweet mayo were the flavours in my half-mozzarella corn dog. I’ll just say, WOW! It was incredible.

The price was roughly around 12$.

Rating was 9/10.

Would I go again? YES.

I am using this gif that I found. I tried to find a photo in my camera roll that would make into a gif but nothing appropriate or funny did I find. But, the pig is exactly how I am feeling since school is almost done and it is winter break soon!!!!

week 11.

My Instagram page, @dayinthelifeofsofia, was recently created. I’ve recently begun posting a lot of pictures of the locations and eateries I’ve visited. I wanted to utilize Instagram to capture my experiences while also helping others discover exciting things to do in Vancouver. Although there are websites where you may locate entertaining things to do, it might be challenging in some places. Although Vancouver is a large city, if I’m on Broadway I want restaurants and parks close by, not in Kitsilano.

That is the real reason I made this account. I want to document my life by sharing more and seeing if I can grow an audience with it. I have always wanted to make an influencer account, but I couldn’t keep up with the demand of posting continuously. I have been trying to post more to gain more transmedia presence. It will grow a better community of people to share similar interests.

Instagram will be a meaningful way to engage through real life content. I can post more on Pinterest to really grow my community and engage people to be interested. I can come up with ways to implement transmedia integration with how I see fit with what I am sharing. Social media influencers most of the time try to work their way towards YouTube. I could head that way once I have a bigger community of people that are interested about what I am pursing.

Peer Review 3.

This week I’ll be reviewing Mikeala’s website, http://mikaelatallaiac.ca/. My first impression of her website was how appealing it was because of the colour scheme. I am a huge fan of how the pink and brown work together. I found that it all worked well together, it was like BAM in my face. It was neat and tidy which I liked plus the photo of herself on the home page allowed me to know who she was. It really brought in more engagement for me to learn more about her and about her health blog.

I really like that she included a “recent post” column on the side to check out her posts that she has made. She has also included her twitter to check out which I found nice. She has been publishing things about health, but not the typical health and wellness things.

I would have really enjoyed more about the type of things she would do to help ease her physical, mental, and social health. It would be intriguing to gather more information on how other people regulate or help their own health.

Another thing I would really like is photos. I am a huge visually learner that is why having photos on her post would really connect me to click on a post.

I feel like Mikeala’s website could really cultivate a good audience if she were to market it up. Basu (2020) said “a growing movement of people are… creating sites that are more collage like and artsy”. I get that vibe from her website. She is bringing in that aspect into her blog which I find appealing.

Basu (2020) said “everyone does their own weird thing” I agree especially in your own digital life, we do. I feel like Mikeala is focusing on personal development and growth, I feel like she should talk more about her own growth and development. Many people nowadays like to listen to people’s stories, how they overcame struggles. Everyone has their own weird habits or struggles that they are trying to overcome.

I know many people grow a huge audience with gym Instagram’s. What they eat, calorie deficits, and workouts they do. But Mikeale’s view is to learn about the best practices in our 4 components of health which is different but appealing. I want to learn about healthy ways of achieving things whether it be physical, emotional, social, or intellectually. She really could grow a strong community of people that are also willing to learn about these things. She could start off with starting an Instagram or Tik Tok to really market what she is learning in those classes. Many people would be interested to learn how to heal things in their own health.

Mikeala’s website could really receive high engagement if she focuses on showing new techniques while also showing her own lessons she learns.

I really did find a lot of her posts to be very beneficial. She wrote a post about journaling. She continues to learn new ways of dealing with your own health, in successful ways. Mental health has been something I have struggled with over the past few years. Anxiety. That was a weird time for me, but I have journaled my life away to help ease my brain. I find that her adding ways to deal with mental health is amazing.

I am still learning new tricks and techniques that will help me grow as an individual. I will be coming back to check out her other advice. I am intrigued with some of her posts. Sometimes most things I find that really focus on health is a lot of physically. I hope to see some of the things she is advising for her to try out and document it.

Overall, I like her blog and will be coming back for sure.

Designing yourself.

Over the years I have followed so many Instagram influencers and Youtubers that I have loved and hated. I personally like lifestyle bloggers in my opinion, I feel that it is rawer and more personal. My favorite lifestyle blogger is Tara Michelle. She is a digital creator; she is very active on Instagram and YouTube. I really like the way she is her true self.

I have watched her YouTube videos since I have been on social media and wow. Over the years I have found myself more connected with her than any other influencer. She has really changed herself to not be like a typical influencer and that is one of the main reasons I still watch her.

I think everyone is so different in real life, but people can be very similar online. That is why I enjoy watching her because she is very raw and will not post crap on her site. Many people will try to promote things just for money but will not actually like the product. I have seen it before, and the black lash people get is ridiculous. But Tara, she promotes worthy products and will give honest reviews. This is how you will have a deeper engagement. Allowing yourself to be different and vulnerable to disagreeing to something will increase people to be more interested. I have found myself to try and be as honest when I am talking about food or drinks that I have tried. This is how you try to change that image social media gives you to be different.

Designing yourself up for success and allowing for more good quality reviews. I want people to come onto my website and see how organized and spontaneous my life is. I also want people to feel more connected with me, like I am texting them about this new thing or place I checked out. It really is all about how to connect better with your audience and what they want to see more of.

Everything.

  • Noble Pilsner (5.1% -18 IBU)
  • Sun Setter; Peach Wheat Ale (4.8%- 18 IBU)

I went to this brewery at YVR Airport. I hate beer. I am a sweet girl all the way. I find beer very bitter and dark. I got a flight of beers from Stanley Brewery. I would rank my beers that I got as Peach Wheat Ale took first place because it tasted exactly like juice, but it did have that after taste of beer. Second would be the Park Sesh Lager, it was still very bitter but not bad. Third was Nobel Pilsner, I did not like it, I chugged it. And lastly, Amber Ale, the most bitter one out of them all. I hated it. After this brewery experience, I still don’t like beer. I did on the other hand get a nice buzz for my flight to allow me to sleep because it was a red eye.

Christmas Gift Guide For Him

So Christmas is right around the corner and some people are probably really stressing out with gift ideas. Gifts are hard, but I got to admit…I’m a really good gift giver and gift thinker. I’m going to come up with some ideas for you to get your man if you’re having a hard time finding something.

Personally, my boyfriend is super hard to shop for. He doesn’t tell me what he wants and if he finds something he likes, he typically buys it for himself so it’s so difficult finding something.

I have a gift guide for valentines 2019 so you could also get anything from that post as well, but I’m going to try to change the items up!

A man always needs a good tie. There are many places to buy a tie and I have found it to be really easy to find nice ties for super cheap as well! If you look at The Bay, Simons, Holts and even Nordstroms

Men can always use more hair products (especially since sometimes they don’t know they need it). You can really get any hair gel at his barber. Ask any of the guys cutting hair because honestly idk which one’s are the best, the barbers know better!

An experience is always a safe bet! No matter what it is, a massage, a trip, a special dinner, an event that he wants to go to… he will love all of them.

Anything Lululemon is a safe bet. They could always use more comfortable clothing and workout gear. If you don’t know what to get him exactly, get a gift card because he will always be able to find something here.

If your boyfriend is anything like mine, then he would LOVE receiving video games as a gift. Honestly, I don’t know anything about video games so you would straight up have to just ask him which ones he wants. If you don’t want to ask, the only advice I can give you is to get the newest sports one (they seem to love those ones)!

Boys are very tricky to shop for, but if you get him any of these gifts I can assure you, you will be the best girlfriend ever!!

Where have I been?

Hello, again beautiful people!

Its been a very long time since I’ve last posted and I honestly don’t have that good of an explanation as to why. Summer began and I just got super busy hanging out with my friends and family, travelling and just relaxing. School started up again and I also was working full time so I had a lot on my plate and I just couldn’t keep up with blogging as well.

I am back and I am going to try to get a blog post up once every week…if not more! I am excited to start writing again and sharing everything with you guys again!

Perfumes

I just realized I’ve never talked about what perfumes I love. I have only used a few perfumes in my life so I know which brand is my favourite. I have really only used Bonpoint perfume, Elizabeth & James, Chloe and Gucci Bloom.

I have NEVER finished a perfume in my life, but when I got the ‘Chloe’ perfume it was like my life was changed forever. This was my new scent and everyone complimented me on it. It had become my favourite scent I’ve ever used. I have used the ‘Chloe’ perfume since grade 7 and haven’t wanted to change it since.

I got a new perfume for Christmas and I never thought I would ever want to use another perfume. My backup for my ‘Chloe’ perfume is my rollerball version of the ‘Chloe’ so I’ve never ventured out. The new perfume I got was the ‘Gucci Bloom’ perfume and the second I smelt it, I was in love. This perfume is now my backup to the ‘Chloe’ perfume and I will use it if my other perfume runs out.

I would definitely suggest the ‘Chloe’ perfume and ‘Gucci Bloom’ because they both smell amazing on anyone and they last for such a long time.

Hope you guys enjoyed reading and try either of these perfumes!

Product of the Month

The product of the month that I have chosen is fashion related instead of beauty related. If you guys haven’t read my other ‘Product of the Month’ posts then let me give you a short explanation. This is an area where I share my favourite product of the month that I have been wearing or trying out. All of the products I have chosen so far have been beauty related so now I’m going to show you guys a fashion favourite for March.

This months product is the ‘Levi Ribcage Straight Jeans’. These jeans are some of my favourites for many reasons. They are very comfortable and they fit very true to size. They haven’t stretched out on me yet and I’m not sure they will. The bow on them makes this jean super different because I’ve never seen a pair of jeans with a denim bow attached, but the good thing about these jeans is if you aren’t into the bow, it is also detachable. I love these jeans because they are long enough and aren’t cropped looking at me. I am tall enough for normal lengthed jeans to look cropped on me and it is one of the most annoying things.

Hope you guys like these jeans and find them comfortable. Definitely go and try them!

Fashion favs for spring

FINALLY. SPRING IS HERE. We are finally able to dress for warm weather without being too cold. I have some fashion favourites when it comes to spring fashion and I’ve been waiting to talk about it.

A t-shirt dress is a must. It is super easy to just throw on and pair with any jacket and any type of shoe. You can pick up these type of dresses in many colours so it looks like you are wearing something different each time. They are also super comfortable to wear.

The next item I think is a must to have in your closet for the spring and summer time is a pair of white pants. White pants are a staple because they look fresh and bright! You can pair them with any coloured shirt and pretty much any type of shoe.

I believe that it is crucial to have a skirt in your collection. Plaid skirts have become very popular again (even if your not in private school) and they are super cute to dress up, or dress down.

The last item that I am going to share is a long silk dress. I think these types of dresses are so cute because you can make them super dressy or super casual. They are very pretty on anyone and they look perfect for an occasion.

Hope you guys like some of these items and check them out online! You will find many more items like them on the Aritzia website. Thanks for reading!

Changing your makeup for Summer

Change your makeup like you change your style for every season. Sometimes people don’t remember to change how they do their makeup for each season. I’m not saying to change it for fall, winter, spring and summer. I’m saying that if you have a makeup routine for the winter climate, you’re going to need to change it for the summer climate. Here are some tips on how to make the change easy.

  1. Don’t use as much face makeup. This is important because people may load up on the foundation, concealer and powder during the winter time because they can and there is no chance it will sweat off. Now that we are moving into the warm weather, wearing that much face makeup can be dangerous because it is super easy for it to sweat off. My advice would be to either use a BB cream so it is a lighter product that you are putting on your face or to just use concealer on your face. I suggest using these products because it is less stuff on your face and if it is super-hot ,you don’t have a lot of product sinking into your pores.
  2. Also I would suggest on using a serum instead of a moisturizer. I would use serum because personally, I find it less thick then moisturizer and it makes you look dewier then what you would naturally look like.
  3. A lot of people probably think I would suggest changing your normal makeup to waterproof makeup. I WOULD NOT! I personally hate waterproof makeup and I would never suggest it just because I feel like it never comes off. Obviously if you feel like it is necessary to wear makeup if you are going swimming or just hanging out by the beach then you do you. I would honestly just say to go out without makeup if you are confident enough.
  4. Sunscreen before putting on makeup or make sure your face products have SPF in them.

I know I don’t have a lot tips but these are the main ones that I think are the most important. Hope you guys have learnt something and decide to change up your makeup routine for spring/summer.

Thank you for reading!

Feel Good Playlist

Music is one of my favourite ways to past time. I feel like many people are in the same boat as me as well. I think people really connect with music because songs are very easy to relate to no matter what you are dealing with in life at the time. There is always a song to express the way you are feeling no matter what and that is why I love it. I have so many songs that I love so I have decided I am going to do a few posts that have to do with my favourite songs. Hence the title, this playlist is going to be my ‘feel good playlist.’

Here are all my feel-good songs that I love to jam out to in the car. All of these songs can be found on Apple music. There are so many more songs that I have on my playlist but I thought that my top 9 picks would be enough for now.

TOP 9 “FEEL GOOD” PICKS

Girls need love (Remix) (ft. Drake) – Summer Walker

Lil bebe – DaniLeigh

Westworld – Evan Giia

Never be like you – Flume

Pretending – The Boogie Wit Da Hoodie

Holy Grail Makeup Products

So I know I have posted my makeup routine on here but I want to change it up a bit and just show you guys my absolute fav products. I don’t necessarily wear all of these products every single day, but they are products I could never live without.

A good concealer is everything to me. This is in my daily makeup routine and I don’t think I could live without it. Even the days where I have the worst bags under my eyes, it still somehow covers all the darkness.

Mascara has been one of the toughest products for me to find. I have gone through so many whether it be drug store or high end. I could never find one that did my lashes any justice until I found this one. It makes my eyelashes so long and the effects of it last all day.

I don’t know if you would consider this a makeup product, but I use it in my makeup routine. I use this as a prime/moisturizer to make my skin look shimmery and dewy. It is not a primer but I just love the way it makes my skin look. I use it before I put anything else on my face just to make me look I have a natural glow. I think it’s important sometimes to have a little bit of a glow, it just makes you look a bit more sunkissed and fresh.

Last but not least, a beauty blender. This isn’t a product but it is a tool I could not live without. It makes me look airbrushed and natural, and I use it for almost everything. I use it for my foundation, concealer, blush, bronzer & highlight. I have never used any other tool except this one and it is by far the best thing ever.

I know I don’t have that many “holy grail” products but I find that less is more. These are the products I would take with me no matter what and I would be happy to just have these in my makeup bag.

Hope you guys enjoyed reading and check some of these products out!

Best Shoes for Spring

Now that spring is around the corner we have to think about changing our shoes. Sounds weird, but it’s true. We will stop wearing snow shoes soon and go on to wearing shoes that are suitable for spring. I have a few favourites (some old and some new) but they all work for spring fashion.

Air force 1’s, sandals, Vans, Yeezys, Doc Martens, Mules

Air Force 1’s are a good staple shoe to own because they are a classic white sneaker. These are super cute to style with a loose dress and they can make a fancy outfit turn casual in a second.

Sandals are a super nice shoe to have in the spring/ summer because you are able to wear them with almost everything. They look good paired with a dress, shorts, jeans etc… and they can be dressed up or dressed down. I don’t have a specific pair of sandals to link for you guys but if you ever find yourself in Capri, Italy they specialize in creating custom sandals for anyone. They are some of the best sandals I have ever bought and they will last a very long time.

Vans are a classic. They work with almost every outfit and like the Airforce 1’s they can make any outfit look more casual then it might be. Vans have many different types of shoes with many different colours and patterns to choose from. They have a huge range of shoes and they are pretty cheap compared to other sneakers.

A pair of shoes that I own and think that I will get a lot of use out of them in the spring. These shoes are the Yeezy Boost 700 V2 “Static Wave” and I think I will wear them a lot because I don’t own a pair of the Airforce 1’s and these are my version of them. They are a classic white and grey shoe that will go with anything and again, make everything more casual.

My favourite shoe at the moment are my Dr Martens. It’s funny because these shoes used to be super popular in the ’90s and then they started to come back in 2008 and then people stopped wearing them until 2018 and now they are popular again. I have been wearing my Docs since December and I wear them with almost everything. I can’t wait to wear them in the spring with dresses and shorts. I think the creme colour would look super cute in the spring with outfits because when you think of spring you think of light colours instead of dark colours.

The last shoe is one that grew on me and it took a while for me to like them. This shoe is the mule shoe. There are a lot of knockoffs for this style of shoe, I have linked the Steve Madden version of the shoe. The original one is from Gucci but they are very expensive. These shoes also come as a fur version as well which are nice for spring because if it is still kinda cold then your feet are kept warm. These shoes are super cute because you can wear them with almost anything and they can make an outfit look dressier then it is. If you are thinking about getting any of these shoes, I would definitely recommend the mules.

Thank you for reading! I hope you guys find at least one of these shoes good for spring and hope you will go out and get a pair.
