Google Pixel 7 Pro Review – A Pixel of Perfection

Out of all the phones I have reviewed so far, the Google Pixel 7 Pro is the epitome of a pure Android experience. It has arrived, and it continues to exemplify Google’s commitment to providing a pure Android experience with an exceptional camera, all wrapped in a sleek, premium design. As a proud Pixel user, I was eagerly awaiting the next installment, and the Pixel 7 Pro did not disappoint.

Design-wise, the Pixel 7 Pro features a refined design that strikes a balance between simplicity and sophistication. The sleek aluminum frame, combined with the textured glass back, not only looks premium but also feels great in hand! I feel that Google has paid extra attention to detail with a  subtly raised camera bump and added a well-placed fingerprint sensor on the back. It’s a design that’s both timeless and functional!

Starting off with the display, the 6.7-inch AMOLED display is a visual delight. The Quad HD+ resolution, along with a 120Hz refresh rate, ensures crisp and smooth visuals. HDR content shines on this screen, with deep blacks and vibrant colours. It’s equally suited for scrolling through social media, streaming your favourite shows, or gaming. I have played a few games on this phone and it was one of the best gaming experiences I’ve had on a phone.

Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro Review: Even Better Value | WIRED

The performance of this phone is unmatched. The Pixel 7 Pro comes equipped with the latest Snapdragon chipset and plenty of RAM, which delivers a blazing-fast performance. Apps open instantly, multitasking is a breeze, and it handles demanding games with ease. The stock Android experience is buttery smooth and free from bloatware. As always, Google’s commitment to timely updates ensures you’re never left behind. The materials this phone is made of are also sustainably sourced and Google has concentrated on using aluminum which can be fully recycled after its useful life (compared to plastic which is put to waste).

The camera system on the Pixel 7 Pro is where it truly shines. The primary sensor, complemented by an ultra-wide lens, captures photos with astonishing detail, accurate colours, and fantastic dynamic range. Google’s image processing software continues to set the bar for smartphone photography. New Night Sight and Astrophotography modes excel in low-light conditions. The front camera is equally impressive, delivering stunning selfies.

You might think that all these features have a heavy toll on the battery life. But in reality, the Pixel 7 Pro’s battery life is reliable, and easily gets through a full day with moderate usage. Google’s Adaptive Battery AI feature ensures that power-hungry apps are efficiently managed. Fast charging and wireless charging capabilities mean you’re never far from a quick top-up!

Lastly,  with 5G support, the Pixel 7 Pro takes advantage of lightning-fast data speeds, making it future-proof and ready for the next generation of mobile connectivity. Google’s software experience remains unparalleled. The Pixel 7 Pro runs on stock Android, ensuring a clean, uncluttered interface with a focus on user experience. The phone ships with the latest Android version, and you can expect prompt updates and security patches for years to come.

In conclusion, the Google Pixel 7 Pro is a testament to Google’s vision of what a smartphone should be. It marries top-tier hardware with a pure Android experience and a camera system that continues to set the standard for mobile photography. While the competition is fierce, the Pixel 7 Pro’s unique blend of design, performance, and software makes it a standout choice for Android enthusiasts and photography lovers. If you value a clean, well-supported Android experience and are passionate about capturing moments with your smartphone, the Pixel 7 Pro is a pixel-perfect choice.

I have been struggling to make my visions for my site come to life. I am happy with my content so far, but I am struggling with the design element. I have watched tutorial, after tutorial, after tutorial about WordPress and Elementor, but I still find myself wanting to throw my laptop across the room every time I try to make a change. I spent hours this week trying to figure out how to incorporate my “about” section onto a page, rather than having it up as a post within a category. I was finally able to get the site set up in a way that I liked, but I had to pick a new theme, which meant that I had to redo everything. After spending a good chunk of time creating pages on Elementor and playing around with the new theme, my site is getting close to what I originally envisioned. Below you can find my original design idea.

Process Post 4- Audience, Accessibility and Adventure

What audience have you been imagining thus far? How has that imagined audience informed your design and editorial decisions?

The first reading this week from Michael Warner, titled. “Publics and Counterpublics”, talked about what the word “public” means, how it has different meanings and how it can be further interpreted by different people. The idea of a public is a cultural form, a kind of practical fiction, present in the modern world in a way that is very different from other or earlier societies. Like the idea of rights, or nations, or markets, it can now seem universal.

The next reading from Forbes was about how our undigitized past may be getting lost as people are always just online and think all their answers can be found just from a click of a button. It talks about museums, and written books that have not yet been digitalized due to copyrights or some reason. The writer says that a lot of information is being lost, especially from the 20th century as people don’t go out and seek information.

Moving on to my journey with website building, we talked about the target audience in class and who my posts are solely meant for/ who they indirectly target. With the world being exposed to new technology and devices every day, I would say that my phone blogs are meant for people who are looking to buy a new phone, who are keen on knowing the new devices in the market and people who share the same passion as me.

Continuing with my exploration of website building, our discussions in class extended to the crucial aspect of accessibility. It became apparent that ensuring that my website is user-friendly and accessible to all individuals, regardless of their abilities, is paramount. This involves implementing features like alt text for images and providing text-to-speech options for those with visual impairments.

For accessibility reasons, I have added quick links to the sidebar of my website and also an accessibility widget (shown in the screenshot below).

Accessibility widget (left) and sidebar (right) for added accessibility for the user

Now, diving into the world of adventure in website design, I realized that creating an engaging and visually stimulating platform can be just as important as the content itself. This adventure involves experimenting with various design elements, colour schemes, and interactive features to captivate and retain the attention of my target audience.

In my journey of website building, I aim to strike a balance between catering to the specific needs and interests of my target audience, ensuring accessibility for all, and embarking on the adventure of design creativity to make my website stand out in the ever-evolving digital landscape.

Mini Assignment #2

My personal hero right now- Miles Morales

Miles Morales- Spider-Man

I have watched two of the Spiderverse movies this month and I have been a fan of them since. I spent hours on websites that talked in-depth about the movie and watched videos that dissect each important part and go further than what is shown in the movies. I have always been a Spiderman fan and Miles is currently my personal hero from the Marvel Universe. This is because he is around my age, attending university while also being a superhero and someone who has everyday struggles as well. I look up to him as university for me is challenging enough that I have reduced my co-curricular, but he is out there (fictionally) being a superhero full-time as well. This gives me the motivation to manage my time better and spend time building a skill, volunteering and being active.

As Miles said, “Everyone keeps telling me how my story is supposed to go. Sorry, I’m doing my own thing.” That’s what I’m doing for the rest of the year!

Process Post 3…

So the story of my website building continues. I have had a steady momentum making my website and there are lots of new features that I came across. I have made a list of all these and hope to add them over the next few weeks. I have been making drafts and seeing previews of how components look (placement).

This is a good week to talk about this as we discussed this in class and our readings related to placement and design as well. In this week’s reading, I learned about the three affordances of social media – “anonymity, persistence, and visibility”. This reading was rather interesting to me as a young adult as I progress and dive deeper into creating a good, honest and professional online presence (for job search and digital footprint).

Two things that stood out to me from these readings:

  1. Social media provide increased opportunities and challenges to manage self-presentation.
  2. Self-presentation is moderated by the technological and social affordances of social media platforms, such as anonymity, persistence, and visibility. And, social media users respond to content provided by others in an effort to manage their online image

So far, I have made menus and submenus for POSIEL and for my phone blogs. The home page of my website (landing page) is where users can see the latest posts and they also have a shuffle option which displays a random post from my site.

Fixed sidebar menu for quick toggling

UH OH. The one problem that has been prevalent is the placement of my featured image. I have spoken to our TA about it as well. The featured image is supposed to be a thumbnail for the post and shouldn’t then be viewed in the body of my post, but the theme I chose displays it as a featured image as well as a body image for the post. This is the one drawback I have noticed in this theme. I have accepted this and now made better-looking featured images that I am ready to live with even if they are part of my blog’s body. In hopes of countering this, I am going to reach out to the creator of the theme and see if they can fix this (even in the theme’s free version).

I have created an Instagram account to broaden this website’s online presence. Find us @rannyspub on Instagram.

OnePlus 10 – An Affordable, Flagship “Super Phone”

The OnePlus 10 is a remarkable piece of technology that blends style, performance, and innovation very well. As a long-time OnePlus enthusiast, I had high expectations for their latest offering, and I can confidently say that the OnePlus 10 exceeded them in every way. My first phone was a OnePlus 3, then a OnePlus 8t and now OnePlus 10.

OnePlus has always excelled in design, and the OnePlus 10 is no exception. The phone’s sleek and slim profile, coupled with premium materials, gives it an elegant and timeless appeal. The glass back with a subtle gradient finish not only looks stunning but also feels comfortable in the hand. The placement of buttons and the tactile feedback are spot on, enhancing the overall user experience.

OnePlus 10 Pro Review - PhoneArena

The OnePlus 10’s AMOLED display is a visual treat. The colours on this phone are vivid, and the 120Hz refresh rate ensures smooth scrolling and exceptional responsiveness. Whether you’re streaming high-definition content, gaming, or just browsing the web, this display elevates the multimedia experience to a whole new level.

Talking about performance, the OnePlus 10 delivers blazing-fast performance with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and ample RAM. Apps load instantly, multitasking is a breeze, and the most demanding games run smoothly without a hitch. I have played PUBG: Battlegrounds, Alien Isolation and Need For Speed on this phone. All graphics run smoothly and the battery holds up very well. It has advanced features like Game Mode, Do Not Disturb and quiet gaming notifications that do not interrupt the gameplay. OxygenOS, with its minimalistic design and thoughtful features, enhances the overall user experience. The phone runs on the latest Android version, ensuring access to the latest software updates. As the phone comes packed with heavy hardware, a big screen and an AMOLED display, I have seen the OnePlus 10 heat up after a few games. Its cool-down speed is quite remarkable though.

In today’s world, the phone camera is used for basically all photography needs. So, talking about the camera setup on the OnePlus 10, I just have two words: VERY impressive. The primary sensor, along with ultra-wide and macro lenses, captures sharp and vibrant images. Low-light performance is outstanding, thanks to advanced computational photography techniques. The video recording capabilities, including 8K recording, are a delight for content creators.

The battery life on the OnePlus 10 is solid, easily lasting a full day with moderate usage. With Warp Charge technology, you can quickly recharge the device, getting a significant boost in just a short charging session. I have charged my phone from 0-100% in 33 minutes and lasts me all day- which is very, very impressive and convenient.

Colour options for OnePlus 10

Features like excellent 5G connectivity that ensures lightning-fast data speeds and a future-proofed experience, clean and bloatware-free OxygenOS software and customization options have led this phone to be the best piece of hardware I have purchased.

In conclusion, the OnePlus 10 is a top-tier smartphone that combines powerful performance, a stunning display, excellent camera capabilities, and a sleek design. OnePlus has consistently delivered quality, and this device is no exception. While the competition is fierce, the OnePlus 10 stands out as a strong contender and a testament to the brand’s commitment to excellence. If you’re looking for a flagship smartphone that offers the complete package, the OnePlus 10 should be at the top of your list.

In just a few weeks, I have gone from feeling incredibly overwhelmed by the idea of starting a website with zero previous experience, to feeling excited about and proud of the progress that I have made. I finally chose a theme for my site, which was actually quite difficult. I had a very clear image in my head of what I wanted the site to look like, but I struggled to find a theme that was close enough to this image. I tried five or six different themes and tested the layouts of each by creating test posts and menus, and finally found one that fit my criteria. Once I got the theme down, I spent some time on YouTube learning the more technical side of running a website. There are so many videos that walk you through WordPress and all of its features, but I found this video particularly helpful, especially the section about categories and menus.

My goal for this week is to learn how to use Elementor to customize my site. I have installed the plug-in, but I need to dedicate some time to watching tutorials. I am going to start with this intro tutorial, and then I will dedicate an afternoon to watching this longer tutorial

Comparing where I am at with my website to my vision board has been pretty interesting. I made a Venn diagram as my vision board, and it was kind of all over the place. I tried to look back on the Venn diagram a few times, but it was quite difficult for me to take much inspiration from it because while the diagram is a representation of who I am as a whole, my site only represents one part of me. Rather than trying to expand the focus of the sight and forcing aspects of myself into posts that just don’t belong, I have been putting effort into being authentic in what I am sharing.

Unleash Your Inner Genius 🙂

Greetings to you fellow Avengers! Tony Stark here, your friendly neighborhood genius (…billionaire and philanthropist), with some life-changing hacks to master the art of reading without burning out. Just like how I optimize Stark tech, it’s time to optimize your reading experience. Let’s dive in:

1. Suit Up with the Right Environment:

You need the right reading environment just like Iron Man requires the right suit. Establish a focused environment where there are no outside distractions, just you and the universe of your choice. Prepare for an immersive reading experience by turning out the lights, don your favorite Stark Industries hoodie, and settle in.

2. J.A.R.V.I.S. – Time Management:

Let’s talk about time management, a skill even J.A.R.V.I.S. would appreciate. Dedicate a specific time for reading, but make it realistic. It’s not about how many hours you read, it’s about the quality of your focus. J.A.R.V.I.S. doesn’t waste time, and neither should you.

3. StarkSpectacles – Your Visual Savior:

StarkSpectacles aren’t just a remarkable styling piece, they’re a reading game changer. Protect your eyes from screen tiredness with blue light blocking lenses. These smart glasses enhance your reading experience, ease eye strain, and sharpen your focus. Think of it as a visual upgrade for your genius mind.

4. Note-Taking System:

I don’t just build suits, I build systems. Develop your own note taking system. You can color code your insights, use stickers, and sprinkle in a dash of Stark style humor. Your notes should be an extension of your thoughts, accessible for later review and sharing with your literary allies.

5. Stark Industries Book Club:

Even geniuses need a team. Establish your Stark Industries Book Club – a gathering of minds hungry for knowledge. Engage in discussions, share recommendations, and let this energy of diverse perspectives enrich your reading journey. Remember, collaboration is the ultimate power move.

Reading is a journey, not a sprint. Stay genius, my friends, and happy reading!

Mini Assignment 2: How to Be a Fitness Superhero

People know me, Wonder Woman, for being skilled in many different ways. I have super strength, but I also have…

People know me, Wonder Woman, for being skilled in many different ways. I have super strength, but I also have super agility. I have super speed, and I also have incredible acrobatic abilities. While it may look like these things come easy to me, you don’t become a well-rounded superhero without putting in the work. All of my different abilities require unique types of training, so here is a very simple, non-exhaustive list, of different kinds of physical activity to consider.

To build or maintain strength, weight training is an excellent type of physical activity. Weight training will help you put on muscle mass, strengthen your joints, and improve your overall mobility (Roland, 2023).

Cardio, or aerobic, exercise is a physical activity that increases your heart rate. This can include running, walking, swimming, cycling, among many others. Cardio exercise improves your heart, lung, bone, and joint health, and has been shown to reduce levels of stress, anxiety and depression (Waehner, 2022).

Agility is the ability to accelerate, decelerate, and change positions quickly. Here is a great article about agility training that is reviewed by a certified trainer; https://www.verywellfit.com/best-agility-drills-for-athletes-3120599

I can totally understand that training like an acrobat is not convenient or accessible for everyone. What is more practical is mobility training. Mobility exercises reduce your risk of injury, fight against the effects of living a sedentary life, and can make functional movements, like sitting down and standing back up, easier (ISSA, 2022).
