Mini Assignment #2

My personal hero right now- Miles Morales

Miles Morales- Spider-Man

I have watched two of the Spiderverse movies this month and I have been a fan of them since. I spent hours on websites that talked in-depth about the movie and watched videos that dissect each important part and go further than what is shown in the movies. I have always been a Spiderman fan and Miles is currently my personal hero from the Marvel Universe. This is because he is around my age, attending university while also being a superhero and someone who has everyday struggles as well. I look up to him as university for me is challenging enough that I have reduced my co-curricular, but he is out there (fictionally) being a superhero full-time as well. This gives me the motivation to manage my time better and spend time building a skill, volunteering and being active.

As Miles said, “Everyone keeps telling me how my story is supposed to go. Sorry, I’m doing my own thing.” That’s what I’m doing for the rest of the year!

Process Post 3…

So the story of my website building continues. I have had a steady momentum making my website and there are lots of new features that I came across. I have made a list of all these and hope to add them over the next few weeks. I have been making drafts and seeing previews of how components look (placement).

This is a good week to talk about this as we discussed this in class and our readings related to placement and design as well. In this week’s reading, I learned about the three affordances of social media – “anonymity, persistence, and visibility”. This reading was rather interesting to me as a young adult as I progress and dive deeper into creating a good, honest and professional online presence (for job search and digital footprint).

Two things that stood out to me from these readings:

  1. Social media provide increased opportunities and challenges to manage self-presentation.
  2. Self-presentation is moderated by the technological and social affordances of social media platforms, such as anonymity, persistence, and visibility. And, social media users respond to content provided by others in an effort to manage their online image

So far, I have made menus and submenus for POSIEL and for my phone blogs. The home page of my website (landing page) is where users can see the latest posts and they also have a shuffle option which displays a random post from my site.

Fixed sidebar menu for quick toggling

UH OH. The one problem that has been prevalent is the placement of my featured image. I have spoken to our TA about it as well. The featured image is supposed to be a thumbnail for the post and shouldn’t then be viewed in the body of my post, but the theme I chose displays it as a featured image as well as a body image for the post. This is the one drawback I have noticed in this theme. I have accepted this and now made better-looking featured images that I am ready to live with even if they are part of my blog’s body. In hopes of countering this, I am going to reach out to the creator of the theme and see if they can fix this (even in the theme’s free version).

I have created an Instagram account to broaden this website’s online presence. Find us @rannyspub on Instagram.

OnePlus 10 – An Affordable, Flagship “Super Phone”

The OnePlus 10 is a remarkable piece of technology that blends style, performance, and innovation very well. As a long-time OnePlus enthusiast, I had high expectations for their latest offering, and I can confidently say that the OnePlus 10 exceeded them in every way. My first phone was a OnePlus 3, then a OnePlus 8t and now OnePlus 10.

OnePlus has always excelled in design, and the OnePlus 10 is no exception. The phone’s sleek and slim profile, coupled with premium materials, gives it an elegant and timeless appeal. The glass back with a subtle gradient finish not only looks stunning but also feels comfortable in the hand. The placement of buttons and the tactile feedback are spot on, enhancing the overall user experience.

OnePlus 10 Pro Review - PhoneArena

The OnePlus 10’s AMOLED display is a visual treat. The colours on this phone are vivid, and the 120Hz refresh rate ensures smooth scrolling and exceptional responsiveness. Whether you’re streaming high-definition content, gaming, or just browsing the web, this display elevates the multimedia experience to a whole new level.

Talking about performance, the OnePlus 10 delivers blazing-fast performance with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and ample RAM. Apps load instantly, multitasking is a breeze, and the most demanding games run smoothly without a hitch. I have played PUBG: Battlegrounds, Alien Isolation and Need For Speed on this phone. All graphics run smoothly and the battery holds up very well. It has advanced features like Game Mode, Do Not Disturb and quiet gaming notifications that do not interrupt the gameplay. OxygenOS, with its minimalistic design and thoughtful features, enhances the overall user experience. The phone runs on the latest Android version, ensuring access to the latest software updates. As the phone comes packed with heavy hardware, a big screen and an AMOLED display, I have seen the OnePlus 10 heat up after a few games. Its cool-down speed is quite remarkable though.

In today’s world, the phone camera is used for basically all photography needs. So, talking about the camera setup on the OnePlus 10, I just have two words: VERY impressive. The primary sensor, along with ultra-wide and macro lenses, captures sharp and vibrant images. Low-light performance is outstanding, thanks to advanced computational photography techniques. The video recording capabilities, including 8K recording, are a delight for content creators.

The battery life on the OnePlus 10 is solid, easily lasting a full day with moderate usage. With Warp Charge technology, you can quickly recharge the device, getting a significant boost in just a short charging session. I have charged my phone from 0-100% in 33 minutes and lasts me all day- which is very, very impressive and convenient.

Colour options for OnePlus 10

Features like excellent 5G connectivity that ensures lightning-fast data speeds and a future-proofed experience, clean and bloatware-free OxygenOS software and customization options have led this phone to be the best piece of hardware I have purchased.

In conclusion, the OnePlus 10 is a top-tier smartphone that combines powerful performance, a stunning display, excellent camera capabilities, and a sleek design. OnePlus has consistently delivered quality, and this device is no exception. While the competition is fierce, the OnePlus 10 stands out as a strong contender and a testament to the brand’s commitment to excellence. If you’re looking for a flagship smartphone that offers the complete package, the OnePlus 10 should be at the top of your list.

How Do I Find a Workout Plan That Works for Me?

There is so much information available online about fitness, and it can be difficult to decide who to listen to.…

There is so much information available online about fitness, and it can be difficult to decide who to listen to. When it comes to picking a workout plan to follow, I would start by asking yourself a few questions:

What are my fitness goals?

Identifying specific fitness goals takes a bit more precision than finding your “why”. Do you want to improve your strength and build muscle, increase your speed and endurance, work on your mobility and agility? Are you interested in a specific activity, like bodybuilding, powerlifting or pilates, for example?

What do I want my physical activity to look like?

Would you prefer to workout in a weight room, in a class setting, at home, or even outside? What kind of equipment do you need for the activity you want to pursue?

Do I want to workout independently or with a coach?

The answer to this question is largely dependent on how much money, if any, you are willing to invest into your workout plan. Creating and following a plan independently is the most cost-effective option. You can even make it completely free if you workout at home and create a workout plan with your own research. I would say that the next step up would be to purchase a plan, or subscribe to a fitness app. Many online personal trainers have workout plans that they have created and sell for a set price. They are meant to be used for a specified amount of time, and they take a one-size-fits-all approach. Fitness apps typically serve the same purpose, but instead of being a one-time purchase, they offer subscriptions and tend to update the content of their plans more often. Classes can be a great way to get your exercise in, as they are structured, an instructor is available to help you, and cancellation fees can serve to help you stay accountable, or at least they do for me. Many fitness classes are quite expensive though, making them somewhat less accessible. The most costly option available to you is hiring a personal trainer or coach. That being said, if you are willing to spend the money, hiring a coach takes a lot of the mental effort out of fitness. They are trained to create plans based on your unique needs and abilities, and they know how to gauge whether a plan is working or not. Finding the right plan, app, or coach is completely dependent on what you identified as your fitness goals. Social media can be a great place to start! I found my current plan by following personal trainers who specialize in weight training, and once I consumed enough content to decide who’s goals and values aligned with mine closely enough, I purchased a plan. That being said, please be careful who you buy products from. I highly recommend only buying fitness-related plans and products from certified fitness professionals. This will help to ensure that you are investing in something that is effective, and most importantly, safe.

In this week’s lecture, we discussed the concept of “public” and “counterpublics”. According to Warner, the ‘public’ are self organized, representing a relation between strangers. It is characterized by a mode of speech that is both personal and impersonal, and it is shaped by the temporality of its circulation. Looking at public, one can distinguish between ‘a’ and ‘the’ public.

Counterpublics is about developing alternative norms for public argument. Furthermore, it is about engaging in political discussions, and they allow individuals to enact identities through new styles of communication. These styles can both be weak (conversations) or strong (action-based). Lastly, counterpublics seeks to formulate oppositional interpretations (identities, interests, needs) by creating a new language.

This lecture got me thinking about my own vision of public, and what some of my counterpublics are and how they got developed. Some of the publics that I find myself in is Vancouver city, at Simon Fraser University and my workspace. Looking at counterpublics, I an example would be the group of exchange students I hang out with. This group is developed on the basis that we are all studying in Copenhagen at home and now we are at SFU together.

Q: Map out your website, visualizing which components should be placed where. Where will your PUB101 content live? This can be a diagram, a map, an infographic. Instagram it. Initiate at least one online social media platform and begin to look at which others work best for your online presence.

I want to keep my POSIEL content confined to one tab so it is organized and easy to view. I am also thinking the POSIEL assignments and posts may be very out of character from the geeral content of the blog. Because of this part of me is considering options to keep it hidden? So as not to disturb the immersion of the rest of the blogs content. I am struggling to link my blog with any of my actual personal socials because I do not feel comfortable linking subjects that are so personal to my online presence as “Dabeen Lee”.

Today, “Life on Exchange” has received an exciting visit in the blog post, namely Anne and Anders from the popular Danish documentary series ‘Anne and Anders in Canada.’ They have traveled from British Columbia in the west to Nova Scotia in the east. The reason for this is that they are trying to understand the vast, multicultural country and meet some of the 200,000 Danes and their descendants who have contributed to shaping the country.

I, Liv, am particularly interested in their episode that focuses on British Columbia, and I ask them about what they did during their time there. They mention that they went out to see vast forests, which have historically attracted loggers and adventurers from all over the world, including Anders’ own grandfather. In the small town of Powell River, Anne and Anders also experience the consequences of Canada’s darkest historical chapter when they meet Lynn and Phillip, who are part of the country’s many indigenous people.

Are you curious about more of Anders and Anne? Then watch their entire documentary series right here.

In just a few weeks, I have gone from feeling incredibly overwhelmed by the idea of starting a website with zero previous experience, to feeling excited about and proud of the progress that I have made. I finally chose a theme for my site, which was actually quite difficult. I had a very clear image in my head of what I wanted the site to look like, but I struggled to find a theme that was close enough to this image. I tried five or six different themes and tested the layouts of each by creating test posts and menus, and finally found one that fit my criteria. Once I got the theme down, I spent some time on YouTube learning the more technical side of running a website. There are so many videos that walk you through WordPress and all of its features, but I found this video particularly helpful, especially the section about categories and menus.

My goal for this week is to learn how to use Elementor to customize my site. I have installed the plug-in, but I need to dedicate some time to watching tutorials. I am going to start with this intro tutorial, and then I will dedicate an afternoon to watching this longer tutorial

Comparing where I am at with my website to my vision board has been pretty interesting. I made a Venn diagram as my vision board, and it was kind of all over the place. I tried to look back on the Venn diagram a few times, but it was quite difficult for me to take much inspiration from it because while the diagram is a representation of who I am as a whole, my site only represents one part of me. Rather than trying to expand the focus of the sight and forcing aspects of myself into posts that just don’t belong, I have been putting effort into being authentic in what I am sharing.
