My Review of The Bar Method

Hello and happy April!

For years, I have wanted to become consistent with exercise. Like a million teenage girls, I participated in the quarantine workout videos on Youtube (think Chloe Ting and Daisy Keech). But I would do them for a few weeks straight but then lose motivation; until I discovered The Bar Method.

I was first introduced this past summer by my friend. Her mom had two vouchers for a free class and registered us both. Immediately I enjoyed it, and when they had a deal for three months of unlimited classes, I was quick to sign up!

What Does it Consist of?

“Each exercise is meticulously designed to transform your body through high-repetition, low-impact resistance training. With elements of Pilates, yoga and other strength training workouts fused into a ballet-inspired barre workout, you will experience unthinkable flexibility, total-body definition, and metabolism-boosting endurance that lasts long after class.”

– The Bar Method

My local studio (West Vancouver) is a quick five-minute drive from my house, allowing me to be super-efficient with my time. The environment of the studio is so lovely, especially the instructors. Even in my first class ever, the instructor learnt my name and gave me adjustments during the different exercises.

The Classes:

There is a 1-hour and a 45-minute class option. But within these lengths, the type of class varies. There is a classic Bar Method class, Bar Express, Bar Flow (which incorporates yoga!), Bar Cardio, and Bar Advanced. My personal preference is the Bar Express because it is a quick 45 minutes, so I am in and out of there (don’t get me wrong, it definitely doesn’t mean for an easier class).

My Thoughts:

I have been consistently attending Bar classes at this studio since the summer and have noticed changes in my body, especially my strength, which I had never worked on before! The low-impact class is still very challenging, but it’s not difficult enough for me not to want to go back. It always leaves me wanting more, and in each class, I’ve noticed at least one new exercise I’ve never done before.

Overall, I highly recommend The Bar Method for anyone looking for a new workout method: “low impact, high reward.” The studio is so welcoming and supportive. And they even have a fantastic student discount. This format of workout has motivated me to become more active, and the

Publics and counter-publics – process post #11

n the article called “Where I can be myself … where I can speak my mind”: Networked counter-publics in a polymedia environment” by Bryce J Renninger. It goes on about how the public can be formed by social media. Publics are a group of people who are interested in a specific topic or idea, and on social networking sites (SNSs) publics and counter-publics could be formed very easily. The article goes on about how the public has been forming on SNSs, and one example of a public is the Asexual community. The Asexual community has been online for a while, and “…it was not until then that an asexual identity, named as such, came to be defined and codified.” (Renninger, 2014). The internet is a great place to grow, expand, and jumpstart ideas and communities since it can be accessed from most devices in the modern world.
Since the internet, there have been many social sites and chatting sites, one site that has grown greatly is a site called “Discord”. “Discord is a voice, video, and text chat app that’s used by tens of millions of people ages 13+ to talk and hang out with their communities and friends.” (Citron, 2015). Discord is a chatting platform, much like WhatsApp and telegram. Though notice how it is marketed towards a younger audience, which means the trends and topics which will be more popular will be different from other popular platforms. In the “discover” tab where people can join public open server chatrooms, Gaming servers such as Minecraft, and Roblox is one of the most joined. Offline vs online communities have very different properties, online is more accessible and anonymous, while in-person can be more engaging. Though everyone has their own opinion of which is a more effective one for engagement or accessibility

How Weightlifting Can Improve Your Health

You might ask, why weightlifting? I’m here to tell you the mental and physical health benefits of weightlifting, and why you should try it, just in time for the summer!

Builds Confidence

Weightlifting feels good! If you’re consistent, you’ll see results fairly quickly, and it is a good confidence booster. When you find something you’re passionate about and good at, it builds confidence. When you work on yourself, and it pays off, that also builds confidence.

Improves Physical Strength

As you lift consistently heavy, you will build physical strength. It allows you to perform other daily tasks as well, while also pushing yourself every time you’re in the gym. When you apply progressive overload, whether it be increasing the reps or weights, this improves your physical strength.

Improves Heart Health and Bone Strength

Studies show that weightlifting has many health benefits such as improving your heart health and bone strength. A study from Harvard demonstrated that 30-60 minutes of weightlifting had a 10-20% lower risk of dying from cancer and heart disease. It can also decrease your blood pressure, and cholesterol, and improve blood circulation, according to Healthline.

Additionally, weightlifting is great for bone development, as it tells your body to essentially rebuild your bones to be stronger when you lift. It also reduces the risk of fractures and whatnot.

Long-Term Benefits

When you consistently lift weights, some long-term benefits include:

  • Improve glucose metabolism
  • Enhance maintenance of healthy body weight
  • Improve cardiovascular risk factors such as blood pressure

Ultimately, weightlifting has many positive outcomes, and speaking from personal experience, everyone should try weightlifting. Other forms of exercise however include jogging, hiking, pilates, yoga, or cycling. Until next time, contact me for more!

Peer Review #3

Self-Presentation in Social Media: Review and Research Opportunities | Review of Communication Research (rcommunicationr.org)

For my peer review, I was paired with Ainah. As I followed her link and landed on her website, I was pleased by all the work she has put into her website. It is well laid out, she has put a lot of effort into her website, and it is paying off because it looks impressive. I love that you have created a space to post as you please and share your love for skin-care products, makeup, and places you have explored. The content you have already created is top-notch, and I hope you follow your dreams and become one of the best content creators/content managers.

In the article “Searching for a public of their own.” Written by Danah Boyd mentions that people go out and capture what they are doing and share it online, and others can view the content they have created through the comfort of their own space. I believe you are making public where people can put their trust in you and try out skincare products you have reviewed, coffee shops you have enjoyed, and restaurants you have been to, all while trusting what you have. Even for myself, I want to purchase some of the things you have reviewed, especially the skin care products you enjoy. I am currently into skincare products and have been using “The Ordinary” and the blush you recommend by Rare Beauty #teamselena, lol!

Overall, the content you create is very pleasing, and the marketing you do for skin care is. Makeup, cafe shops, and how to care for yourself while at University are well advertised. So much so that I will take in what you are saying and try out some of the brands you like, and I also enjoyed the tips you shared because sometimes people need a reminder to care for themself. Students often focus on their classes and forget to put themselves first. This is your very own “Digital Garden” where you can let others know how you feel about products, and they can reach out and connect with you about things you have reviewed and reach out about places they have found interesting as well. Keep up the excellent work; one day, you will have everything you hope and pray for.

Typing Autistic Characters in Media

Finding a fictional character who is explicitly stated (or at least heavily implied) to be autistic has always been a surprise for me, no matter how old I get. I grew up relating to a lot of characters who were not intended to be on the spectrum, but were nonetheless influenced by the creator’s life in some way.

In recent years, there have been more frequent attempts to create thoughtful and accurate depictions of autistic people in the media, which I appreciate. Despite the many creators who are careful about these portrayals, many people consuming said media reduces the characters to stereotypes.

A phenomena I’ve personally encountered lies on the website Personality Database, which is a forum-turned social media site dedicated to voting on the personality of celebrities, historical figures, fictional characters, etc. Although the comments section is not usually filled with the best arguments, I find an especially annoying disparity around canonically (or heavily implied) autistic characters.

Many autistic characters do happen to be either ISTJs or INTPS, but it is absurd to believe that autistic characters (and therefore people) will all have functions such as high Si and Tx, and low Fx. This shows a blatant misunderstanding of cognitive functions, behaviour versus personality, and the overall meaning behind what it means to be autistic.

In order to prove my point, I will be comparing and contrasting Abed Nadir of the TV show Community (2009) and Gin Ibushi of the video game Your Turn to Die (2017). These two characters showcase how sharing autistic traits does not equate to being the same personality type (seeing as they are an INTP 5 and ESFP 7, respectively).

Abed Nadir is implied to be autistic throughout Community, with jokes and references to being on the spectrum since the very first episode. However, underneath the comedic aspect of Abed’s “awkwardness” and “obsession with movies” lies an accurate representation of the autistic experience.

In many episodes (including his first appearance) Abed is clearly shown to be collecting and infodumping facts without prompting. This is usually either dramatized to a ridiculous effect for a joke, or serving a distinct narrative purpose, such as giving Jeff (who doubles as an audience stand-in) exposition for the 5 other main characters.

Aerodynamics of Gender is based on the common autistic trait of being blunt in terms of speech. The women of the study group pick up on this aspect of Abed, and manipulate him into being a jerk to other people for their own entertainment.

There is a cold open in Curriculum Unavailable where Abed is seen being comforted by Troy and Annie while the study room’s clock is being changed for daylight savings time. This is clearly meant to show the common hesitate to accept change in our environments and need for consistency.

In Advanced Criminal Law, Troy explains how friends sometimes mess with each other by lying. Abed doesn’t understand that the other person is supposed to know that it’s a joke, and goes completely overboard for the entire episode in order to keep up the lie that he is an alien.

These are all examples of ways in which autistic traits are exhibited in areas related to communication, interests, and sensitivity to changes.

Next we have Gin, who was widely considered autistic-coded throughout the first few chapters of Your Turn to Die, but was explicitly stated as being diagnosed in chapter 3 through a flashback to his past.

Gin wears an outfit consisting of a hat attached to a cape, paw gloves, and a tail, with patterning similar to a cat and a plushie that he is often seen holding onto. He feels most comfortable talking to other people with these clothes on, but was discouraged from wearing the outfit at school.

Gin also has vocal stims, often saying “meow” or “woof” at the end of sentences (which I actually share, as one of my biggest special interests is cat behaviour). Each of these elements is tied into his interest in animals; his favourites are cats and dogs, but he enjoys alligators currently.

Only one other character has been shown to have a gameplay gimmick; the detective Keiji uses his experience as a detective to interpret other characters’ true thoughts.

In comparison, Gin is able to see clues the other characters miss, as his perceptive abilities are quite pronounced. Many autistic people have similarly strong perception, with the caveat of being more sensitive to sensory input.

Finally, Gin is shown to have Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), which is an aspect of autism that has been proposed to be added to the official list of traits.

PDA describes someone who avoids expectations being placed on them, due to a feeling of excessive anxiety and lack of autonomy. These feelings are triggered even when the individual usually enjoys the activity, and describe Gin’s experiences in school very well.

In Gin’s case, his most prominent traits seem to be stimming and sensory perception, but he also presents intense interests and bluntness similarly to Abed.

From these character examples, we can surmise that autistic traits and personality traits are separate aspects of a person’s identity, and are not a 1:1 match in most cases. The constant bickering over whether an autistic character is a Si dom for liking routine has no reason to exist, given that these are completely different discussions (and Si ≠ liking stability in the first place!).

I hope this post might encourage others to expand their definitions of autistic people (and correct their interpretations of the cognitive functions, for that matter).

Relegating autistic people to just a few possible personality types is not only unrealistic, but also serves to deny us of the autonomy which is automatically given to others.

Peer Review #3 – Kashish Shodwani

Website being reviewed: http://kashishshodwani.com/

For this third and final peer review of this class of PUB 101, I was assigned to review another blogger’s website. For this peer review, I am told to observe the website’s marketability to an intended audience group. I was paired up with a student named Kashish Shodwani, and her website is called “BRAINY BLOG” I think this was one interesting website to look into. For starters, some may notice that there is an eye-catching title to the website, there is this picture of a plastic brain and huge text stating “Unlocking the secrets of the brain.” As for her about page, she starts by greeting the viewers of her website by saying “Hello psychology geeks…” Which can give a big hint of what she had imagined her audience to be. As for the about page, she said that she is a major in Psychology. She said she hopes to grow by learning better about her life by understanding how she and others work; Hearing this reminded me of an article called “How To Talk to Stranger” which goes into how to be a more friendly persona and how to talk to strangers out in the world (Hamblin, 2016).

As for the design and aesthetic of the website, I noticed it has a very similar colour background and formatting to the POSIEL website which is our home site for this class. I feel that this design, intentional or not makes a sense of familiarity within the site since most of the returning audiences may be students in the same class of PUB 101. For the marketability of this website, I believe the top of the page is a great eye-catcher, it has a bright orange brain picture on the right, and Big bold text stating “A dive into how to use psychological concepts in everyday life: Tips, Tricks and Insights.” Which may make the reader interested to read more about psychology. The big bold text can make an easy marketing strategy for her viewers, which can make the difference for people stay on her site or not. The typing style used in blogs on this website is very formal with proper punctuation and grammar. This typing style can give the feeling that the author makes blogs for people who are more sophisticated in reading longer blogs and readings.

One of her blogs called “Fight the Stress” this blog goes on about how stress is very draining to almost everyone and how we should control it. I feel that Shodwani’s public audience in mind was other people who are interested in Psychology. For example, Shodwani stated in her introduction sentence saying “Hello psychology geeks…” which is a massive giveaway to Shodwani’s idea of what her public was going to be on. According to an article called “Publics and Counterpublics” by Michael Warner, Warner stated that “A public is a space of discourse organized by nothing other than discourse itself.” (Warner, 2002).

Trina from Falsettos (2016) is a Clear 6w7

Falsettos is a 1992 musical about an unorthodox family living through the AIDs epidemic while exploring themes of gender roles, sexuality, and Jewish identity in New York City around the 1970’s/80s. The original musical was remastered for a Broadway run starting in 2016, which is the version I intend to talk about today (with spoilers, of course).

There is a primary cast of 5 characters (plus 2 which are introduced in the second act), but I wish to deal with the often underappreciated character of Trina. Trina is Marvin’s ex-wife, Jason’s mother, Mendel’s partner, but she is also a complex person in her own right.

When discussing Trina’s enneagram type, many people instinctively declare her as a 2. I’d like to make a case for Trina being a type 6w7, specifically the self preservation subtype. I’ll go over some core aspects of the two types to explain my reasoning, and then analyze each of her solo songs in more detail.

Twos and self-preservation sixes are commonly mistyped because of their outwardly warm disposition and devotion to others, but the key difference lies in motivation. From what we can tell in Trina’s lyrics, she cares for and attends to the needs of the people in her life in order to gain a sense of security for herself.

There is something to be said about the particular role that Trina is cast into as a housewife in the late 1970s, though I believe that to be ultimately unrelated to this analysis. The character of Whizzer is similarly burdened with unfair gender roles forced onto him, but he is clearly shown to be handling that like a typical 7.

The first of three solo songs performed by Trina is “I’m Breaking Down”, a satirized version of a cooking program with plenty of innuendos and thinly-veiled metaphors. It is a tragic first glimpse into Trina’s inner world, filled with nods to her unfulfilling life before the musical takes place. Trina’s desperate motives line up with a typical 6, showing a deep sense of responsibility while also lacking confidence in her own judgement. This leads Trina to seek out someone, anyone, with whom she can satisfy her need for companionship and safety.

“I only want to love a man who can love me….
Or like me…
Or help me…”

Genius Lyrics from I’m Breaking Down

Trina’s emotional reactivity is on full display and her sense of self clearly hinges on the attachment to important people in her life (both traits of the harmonics and object relations group that 6 belongs to).

Trina’s song” (which is grouped together in the official recording) a few minutes later shifts the tone quite considerably, serving as a pained letter to the men in her life. At this point, Trina’s primary strategy for staying in control of her life is to lie low and take on her assumed role. Appeasing other people to assure a support system that won’t leave you is a defence mechanism commonly seen in self-preservation 6s.

“That said, I’ll be his wife
I’ll wed and change my life”

Genius Lyrics from Trina’s Song

In the subsequent reprisal of this song, Trina demonstrates strong growth by denouncing her previous promise to keep things as they’ve always been.

“I’ll commit, that’s agreed
And with wit and precision
I’ve made a decision
To get the things I need”

Genius Lyrics from Trina’s Song (Reprise)

The last song that Trina plays a primary part in is “Holding to the Ground”, which is perhaps the most obvious example of her true feelings. Trina grapples with her assumptions around how families are defined and the pressure placed on her since birth to live within the mainstream narrative. She also deals with themes of trying to find comfort in a world unlike anything she prepared for.

“Life is never what you planned
Life is moments you can’t understand
And that is life”

Genius Lyrics from Holding to the Ground

Trina discovers a certain clarity at the end of each of her songs, in which she attempts to solve every problem in her life with carefully planned actions (which never work). After this realization, Trina gains the insight necessary to cope with the reality that her world will be changed at every turn.

Trina’s character development is firmly rooted in breaking out of the expectations placed on her and learning to trust her own guidance and strength. She experiences immense progress from act 1 to 2, and ultimately is able to find solace in the found family she has cultivated, despite being so completely different from what Trina or her parents would have expected.

And she’s definitely a 6.

Trina is one of my favourite characters from Falsettos and I appreciate that she isn’t shoved aside by the writers for the sake of the main 4 men in the show. I had no idea what to expect from her on a first watch, but I found her character to be deeply relatable and immeasurably important to the story.

Mobile Data Review – Process Post #10

For this week, the readings have made a shift in content. Although these shifts happen every week, I thought that this week was different from the rest. While one of the readings involve the basics of SEO and other things, the reading that caught my attention was the data on mobile usage and apps. The data collected was from 2022, and the article is called “S T A T E O F M O B I L E 2 0 2 2.” This study collects data on apps downloaded and where it is downloaded in each country. The article states that there are “Globally 230 Billion Downloads…” (data.ai, 2022, pg. 7).

Some examples of data that I found interesting was the use of apps from each generation, one of the top most used apps by Gen Z according to data.ai is Instagram, followed by Spotify, Netflix, then Snapchat. I was also surprised that male and female usages were different for the top-used apps. Accordingly, males’ top downloaded app was WhatsApp Messenger, while females’ top downloaded is Facebook. Overall this article is a great source of collecting and looking at data, and I suggest that you take a visit to it as well.

Untangling Morality in Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog

Character archetypes have a fairly predictable lifespan of solidifying themselves in pop culture, going through subversions, and subsequently creating new archetypes based on those subversions over the course of many years.

A musical by the name of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog presents one such subversion of the conventional villain. Once again I will be showing spoilers, as this is 15 years old, has been available on YouTube for free since 2012, and only lasts around 40 minutes.

Dr. Horrible (real name Billy) is the titular protagonist and atypical supervillain of this musical. At his core, Billy is an idealistic man who believes that society is deeply flawed and seeks to reform it. His self-focused yet strong morals clearly show the decision making abilities of an Fi user, an INFP to be more specific. It’s rare to see a villain character who uses Fi as they are usually cast into the role of quirky side characters or sensitive heroes. I’ll be analyzing how Billy’s idea of morality intersects with his position in the story and showcases a great example of a realistic INFP character.

Despite Billy being generally correct that society has plenty of problems, he doesn’t actually seem all that interested in the important work that people like Penny (his crush) undertake. His primary goal is much more ambitious than that, seeking to rule the world in order to dismantle the issues he sees in it. In reality, his methods to reconcile these values turn out to be ill-defined and naive (in line with the poor planning and indecisiveness of low Te)

Billy becomes the supervillain Dr. Horrible in order to infiltrate the Evil League of Evil and use their resources to govern (and therefore “fix”) the world. In order to get accepted by the leader, Bad Horse, Billy needs to commit increasingly cruel objectives which only starts to become a problem when he is forced to assassinate someone.

Captain Hammer (Dr. Horrible’s nemesis) also preoccupies much of his time, leading to an unfortunate mess of priorities which ultimately ends with Billy alone and unsatisfied after accidentally killing Penny. Despite having achieved the one thing he needed, Billy is left without any reason to still be working towards that goal.

Billy starts off with fairly good intentions and is endearing and personable, if a tad awkward at the beginning. I firmly believe that Penny would have been open to a relationship with him if his rivalry with Captain Hammer didn’t get in the way of everything else. That’s precisely what makes it hurt so much when Billy becomes obsessed with making it into the Evil League of Evil, as his ordinary life falls apart and it all culminates into a tragic but captivating character progression.

Aside from Billy’s obvious lack of preparation, the Evil League of Evil is an organization which we can deduce would not allow someone so outwardly open about his plans to actually overthrow their governance. We can see how the league breaks people down with their absurd and cruel standards, and can presume that even if Billy could change anything, the person he’d committed his life to is already gone.

At this point, Billy is so hopeless that we can presume he has lost his original goal and any motivation to dismantle anything at all. We see hints of his sense of self being degraded in service of the Dr. Horrible persona throughout the musical, but I certainly rooted for him despite the clues suggesting it wouldn’t end on a positive note. What starts as a comedic musical with air-headed characters and obvious tropes shapes into a deeply tragic story with a surprisingly dark ending.

One of the most emotionally jarring moments happens right before the credits roll. Dr. Horrible is seen chatting up the other villains in a triumphant montage at the league, seemingly having moved on from the previous events. He has a stylish new outfit and is finally being taken seriously in front of his peers, and the music swells before the doors slowly close.

We cut to Billy, sitting in front of his video camera with the desolate expression of a man who has lost everything, including himself.

Spring has finally sprung!

Pictures I took down at the False Creek boardwalk

Today marks the first day of spring! Another name for today is Spring Equinox. Spring is hands-down my favourite season. There is nothing like stepping outside, being able to take your coat off again, and seeing the budding blossoms returning.

This past Saturday I found myself exploring Vancouver. I went to the BC Home and Garden Show at BC Place. Even though I don’t own a home, there were some great exhibits and it was fun to dream a bit. One stall was giving away Japanese maple tree seedlings. I was able to buy some pussy willow branches to decorate my apartment.

While down in the area on such a warm and sunny day, I decided to take a walk down on the seaside boardwalk in False Creek. It reached +16 degrees this day. There were so many happy people out just soaking up the sunshine after a long grey winter. What a great walk along this boardwalk it is also a great place to bring your bike or have a picnic by the ocean. It is a beautiful view of the Science Center across False Creek and you can watch the Aquabuses go by. I haven’t ridden one yet, but I plan to this summer. It would be a fun way to get to Granville Island from The Olympic Village (which is about $6.25 one way).

False Creek walking map

There were so many flowers that were out already! I took so many pictures. I used my phone app called ‘Planto‘. If you are interested in plant names I recommend this handy app. All you have to do is take pictures and upload them into the app and it will identify them for you. I also have mushroom and rock identifier apps I love to use.

How to Gain Muscle

A common goal of weightlifting is to gain muscle, but how do you do that? Let’s talk about it!

The simple answer is to perform resistance training and consume protein and nutrients, according to this article. This has to be broken down into different concepts of muscle growth.

Rep Ranges

Deciding what your targeted rep range is for various exercises will help you work towards building muscle. This will depend on your goals. Fewer reps of 1-5 are achieved for more strength, the mid-range of 6-12 results in muscle growth, and 12-20 reps are suited for people wanting to build muscular endurance. If you’re in the low rep range, you’ll want to lift heavy weights, whereas there’s room to adjust the weight to be lighter for higher rep ranges.

An example of this is the bench press, such as doing 5×5 (5 sets, 5 reps each). For tricep pushdowns, you may see something like 4×10 or 3×12.

Setting up a Routine

To gain muscle and achieve your fitness goals, you need to have a consistent routine for your exercises. Read this blog I wrote about picking the right workout split. This includes doing the same exercises consistently and applying progressive overload. If you do the same exercises consistently, you will see results and get stronger. In addition, don’t overdo it, a workout only needs 4-5 exercises.

Eating to Gain Muscle

This comes with its challenges, but ultimately the main priority to gaining muscle is consuming protein. The guideline is to consume 0.72 grams of protein per pound of body weight. So you may see someone who weighs 140 lbs consuming nearly 140 g of protein.

You may have heard the terms ‘bulking’ and ‘cutting’, which are cycles of eating that entails eating above or below your maintenance calories. To bulk, athletes may eat up to 500 calories or more over their regular calorie intake, whereas those cutting will eat 300-500 calories below. Both cycles require a sufficient amount of protein to build muscle.

Carbs and fats are important nutrients to incorporate into your diet, though protein should be a priority.

Ultimately, this will look different for some lifters, but everyone should be lifting weights and consuming enough protein to see results in muscle growth. Contact me to discuss more!

Recent Blender projects

So, I noticed that I have not posted anything much about Blender. Yeah, I know this was originally meant to be a blender website so let me fix it.

Also to go off topic for one second, these blog posts are nice and everything but there has been something I have been questioning. I am making these blogs purely because this is something I enjoy. But one thing that is making me think is how this is for the PUB 101 class. And I feel that makes a difference. Let me explain, if I were to make a blog because I wanted to I would make one out of fun. Though with these blogs being graded, I feel as if all blogs must need a certain length. For me, this makes these blogs more of a pile-on with all the other assignments, process-post, and reviews we have to do. But hey, I am just a guy stating his opinion online and it may not matter. So my bad for going off track, let us continue our blogging!

Here are some nice dominos being tumbled over, I was trying out the physics feature on this. Watch out for the little surprise at the end of this video. Oh, and just for one more add-on to this piece, the “S” and “G” are meant to be my initials. 🙂

Hey, this one took a while to do, mostly because I was trying to figure out how to make the ground look realistic. Apparently, in some versions of blender, there was a template for rock texture and depth. So that is being used in this little short video. As for animating the text, I had to make sure the text lit up at the right times, so each text are there own separate object, not as one big text.

Here is a sheep, we do not talk about the sheep. the sheep although made of simple things, but knows a lot of things.

bright gold text on a checker floor saying "Stirling"

Here is a cool thing I did here, notice something? Yes, the floor is reflective, that’s what you thought right? Yes, this was cool, I added a thin glass material right above the floor, which automatically added the reflection which I thought was so cool.
Thank you for looking at my art dumps, if you have any questions, please type in the comments, I may choose to request somebody’s idea if I get any!

Do’s and Don’t’s of Lifting

If you’re unsure whether you’re lifting correctly, here are my do’s and don’t’s of lifting!

DO Apply Progressive Overload

You’ll never get stronger if you don’t challenge yourself. You should consistently increase the weight, frequency and repetitions during each exercise whenever possible. It will strengthen your musculoskeletal system. This article breaks it down and explains progressive overload.

DON’T Egolift to Impress Others

Keeping progressive overload in mind, tread carefully. There’s no point in lifting heavy weight if you are constantly struggling to maintain good form and rep it out. Know your limits, and take your time working up the weight if you need to.

DO Listen to Your Body

While it’s good to push yourself, listen to what your body is telling you. This can apply to exercises that don’t feel right, when you feel you’re too tired to keep going, or if you need a rest day. It’s okay to take an extra rest day if needed. Don’t overwork yourself, and take care of your body, it will thank you.

DON’T Skip Rest Days

I used to want to lift every day, but that’s not ideal. Your body needs to recover to keep going. I lift 6 times a week and rest on Sundays. For others, you may need 2-3 rest days, and that’s fine!

DO Include Cardio in Your Routine

Lifting is great, but so is cardio! Cardio has many benefits such as improving your cardiovascular health and strengthens your immune system. Even walking on the treadmill or going for a hot girl walk outside are great ways to incorporate cardio into your routine.

DON’T Try to Out-Train a Bad Diet

While lifting and cardio go hand-in-hand, you cannot out-train a bad diet. Doing lots of cardio to compensate for your diet will not get you the results you want. Work out, out and eat clean. You don’t necessarily have to restrict yourself either, but don’t solely rely on exercise.

DO the Same Exercises Consistently

Don’t try to switch it up every time you work out. You should maintain the same routine for at least 6 weeks to see optimal results. You can add variations, but you should do the same compound and isolation movements. Sometimes instead of a flat dumbbell chest press, you could do an incline chest press one day instead, which is okay because it’s the same movement. But to apply progressive overload, try to do the same exercises consistently.

DON’T Try to PR Every Time You Lift

It’s exciting to lift heavy weights, but don’t get carried away. Don’t pressure yourself to lift heavier than you need to that day just because you see other people lifting heavier weights than you. Do what feels right that day, and if you do feel ready for a PR, then go for it. But sometimes this can result in ego lifting.

Ultimately, it comes down to the person’s preferences and goals, but these are some ways you can lift “right”. Contact me for more!

Why AI should not be banned from classroom?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the ongoing talk of the town, AI has made rapid progress in recent years, which has also led to growing concern amongst academics and professionals about its impact on society. (Luckin & Cukurova, 2019). As AI is advancing and becoming readily available for the public to use. Some students are starting to adapt to it and integrate AI products like ChatGPT and Dall-E in their learning but there is still resistance from most academics (Duckworth & Ungar, 2023). In this essay, we will explore the pros and cons of Chat GPT and why AI should not be banned but rather integrated into learning for the future.

AI has the ability to revolutionize the way we learn and interact with data. As described in the previous ChatGPT essay, AI language models can help with personalized learning, research, information collecting, collaborative learning, and peer-to-peer support. Yet, there are possible hazards and concerns linked with AI in education, such as the potential for bias perpetuation and lessening the necessity of human teachers.

After trying ChatGPT for the first time, I was impressed by its efficiency, but after using it more and researching I was able to conclude that ChatGPT isn’t reliable enough to blindly trust, not only does it provide common and mainstream ideas but also sometimes incorrectly answer the question given, which defeats the whole purpose of using it as it isn’t able to correctly perform it’s a major function. (Kim, 2023) Although it should be noted that the functionality of AI will only improve in the coming future, AI isn’t and will never be as creative and accurate as a human mind. “Cheating With ChatGPT: Can OpenAI’s Chatbot Pass AP Lit? | WSJ” is a very appropriate example for the same, in this video, the host could only get a C with help of AI in AP literature, which is far less than other students in the class.

As a student, I have seen a lot of my peers using ChatGPT to write assignments, and some even use them for online examinations. It is robbing students of motivation to write and think for themselves (Baron, 2023). These students who are relying on ChatGPT are not acquiring the essential skills needed to succeed in academics or in other professions in the future, It can be argued that in the future as AI improves, the workforce would have adopted its use in their work. However, core skills and skills to evaluate, edit, and improve the product of AI are still going to be necessary to stay ahead in the industry.

The usage of AI has also resulted in growing concern regarding plagiarism as ChatGPT uses data from other sources without citing them accurately, this ethical implication has led to huge discouragement in the use of AI in academia. We should consider how we have been already using tech tools for academic writing for a long time, for instance, SFU Library offers as well as promotes a citation generator for citing academic sources, back in the day, citations were typed out without the help of these generators. Technology is not going to stop growing and humankind should advance with it rather than resist it. AI is another such technology, and the more we are resistant to it slower we will advance and grow with it.

Given these concerns, it is critical that we use AI in our daily lives in a responsible and ethical manner. Rather than flatly prohibiting AI, we should investigate methods to best utilize the capabilities it provides while limiting its potential risks and limitations. This includes investing in ethical AI research and development, developing norms and standards for AI use in diverse industries, and promoting public education and understanding of the potential benefits and risks of AI.

There are always going to be concerns emerging with anything new that arises, soon AI will be the handy tool everyone uses, and efficient use of AI will become a required skill for employment in certain sectors. It is the job of the university to make the students equipped with the skills they are going to need in the future. For effective learning, universities should promote stricter policies and usage of creative novel ideas AI can’t generate and promote discussions and group work over individual assignments.

5 Books on My TBR List

Hi Everyone!

I hope your March has been going well so far. Mine has been super hectic, and my February was the same. Normally in my downtime I either watch a movie or read a book. But because I’ve been so busy with school work, and a lot of that includes doing readings for classes – reading for pleasure hasn’t been super appealing to me.

I do have a bad habit of buying books, and failing to make time to actually read them. So here are 6 of the books in my to-be-read list that I’m excited to read once I have time!

1. Everything I Know About Love – Dolly Alderton

2. Daisy Jones & The Six – Taylor Jenkins Reid

    Intermittent Fasting

I have been intermittent fasting for the last two days to months; let me tell you, it is hard! My health has been taking a toll on me because I often find myself exhausted halfway through the day and constantly feeling sluggish, so I knew something had to change. Then, I came across Intermittent Fasting, where you must start eating at a particular time and stop eating at a specific time. So I eat my first meal at 9:00 am and stopped eating at 5:00 pm. I thought at first that this would be easy. I mean, all you have to do is stop eating after a certain period of time, right? NOT!! I struggled not to snack on anything when I ate my last meal at 5:00 pm the first night. I remember feeling so many emotions; I was irritable and couldn’t do it. I never knew it could impact me in this way. I sat in the room and felt like I wanted to cry; that’s how tough it was on me. But, with time and the right mindset, I got past my first hurdle, the first week of fasting. I allowed myself to have one cheat day, and I got too comfortable with it around week four, and I broke my fasting for five days!! I ate my favorite foods, and I let it get-go for five days, and I said to myself, “I give up,” My partner reassured me that I could do it, and in the end, I started all over again. Now that I am hitting my two-month mark, I have noticed some significant changes, I get whole way faster, and it is still hard not to snack after 5:00 pm, but it has gotten way more manageable. Overall, this is working for me. I am down seven pounds and will continue my journey till I reach my goal.

Terrible 2’s going into Terrible 3’s

My daughter was an angel when she just turned two, but the terrible two’s started to kick in when she was around 19 months things took a turn. My daughter is now struggling to work with her emotions and displaying her motions very harshly. The tantrums! she has a meltdown almost every day, especially when it is bedtime or when she needs to get ready in the morning daycare, anything that triggers her, she screams her head off. THE STRUGGLE IS REAL! I am having a hard time with this phase. I am trying to teach her to use gentle hands and use her words when she is upset because hitting and yelling get her nowhere. Now that she is turning three next month, on April 8th, and soon going on the “big kid” side at daycare, she will need to learn how to use her words and deal with the situation that may arise at daycare while playing with her friends. Also, no one tells you they refuse to eat dinner when they are around this age!! All they want is snacks and cereal.

My first baby is turning!! I can’t believe it. Isabella and I are on a learning journey together, and we will learn how to deal with emotions and grow together. I want to set a good example for my children and instill in their brains that they always have myself and their dad in their corner. In time, this phase will be behind us, and in the meantime, I want to spend every moment with them while they are still young because I will never get these moments back.
